Roxy Ann Fire
On September 21st a fire swept across Roxy Ann. I was at home getting ready to head up to the homes up on a rolling hill off McAndrews Rd to shoot a video and when I walked out of my home a tiny pillar of smoke was coming from the direction I was headed. I live close to Foot Hills Rd very close to the source of the smoke. (but not in harms way). I new this was not good. So I canceled my trip up the mountain and watched the mountain as the fire grew. I was close enough to see little fires burning through the smoke on the hillside behind and some fires continued to
burn even after the grass fires were either put out or moved on to new unclaimed territories of the mountain. The fire was very close to residential homes on the hill. We watched as all the planes and helicopters dropped water and fire retardant on the fire. Fire Fighters had a major challenge that day since there were many other fires around Jackson County at the same time. Thanks to the firefighters working as a great team no homes were claimed by the fire on Roxy Ann. Theses are 3 of the photos I took of the fire. the second one gives a great perspective of the size of the smoke cloud over the top of the houses.
